Question new plug wires = low RPM stumble

Ok i recently installed a taylor OTVC wire kit, and im on gremlin number 2.

the issue im having is a stumble from 1-2k rpms, under load (half throttle or more). It is also mostly in first and second gear. the car seems to 'hiccup' and mildly buck the drivetrain. If i hold it under load, it will usually buck continually until it gets out of the lower RPMs. It almost seems like something a car would normally do under heavy throttle at low RPMs, but the thing is... it didnt do it before the new wires were installed.

The car still pulls hard as hell, but its definitely weaker on holeshots. It doesnt want to turn the tires from a slow roll like it used to. The way it is right now i am 99% sure it would sputter on me coming off the line at the drag strip.

it doesnt seem like a plug wire issue but it kind of has to be... so im looking for advice on what to do next. Some people have told me i should stick to factory wires, so im debating trying that.

Check your plug wires and your plugs. If it wasn't doing that before you changed the wires out it's a good indication the wires and/or plugs are the culprit.

Agreed - check the wires again. Make sure you have a positive click on the plugs and the opti.

getting a 'positive click' on the opti was more than a challenge on every last one of them. They are all on the opti though snug with 1/4" or less room remaining on every one.

How about the plugs-to-wires? You should also check to make sure the plugs are in good conidtion (ie porcelain is not cracked).

I remember them being tough - just check them for your own benefit. I also remember not really hearing a click but more feeling it click, if that makes sense.

Good call.

I had this happen to me - little too much on the ratchet when tightening and cracked one myself. Luckily, I pulled it out immediately and replaced.

Did you terminate the plugs yourself? Might have snapped a core lead or bent it too far, and it only fires when it's got more voltage to jump to the rest of the lead.
