new wires?
hey guys question here, i had my 97 camaro ss in the shop had head gaskets replaced, new waterpump installed . my first problem was they had the car for 5 weeks which to me was mind blowing but anyhow when i got it back they then informed me i would need new wires , its quite obvious when i drive it that i need new wires because the car seems to stumble and not fire well and the check engine light flashes , my question is i didnt have any problems whatsoever with stumbling or misfire before i sent it in to get the above mentioned work done, so how why immediatley when i get it back. something doesnt seem right with that to me,

How much do you trust that garage? I have had dishonest mechanics mess with my **** before and saying I needed more work. You should take a look see under the car and check the wires. Then make sure none of them are crossed.

Re: new wires?
im not sure if the waterpump leaked onto the optispark and i didnt even think of that happening thanks for the heads up. i am having the code run tomm at a different mechanic , all replies appreciated , and the wires are the original wires. i just know wires are an expensive job and not withhin my abilities on this car so im pretty peed that if i need new wires they werent done when he already had the motor half apart.

A flashing SES is a constant missfire or dead cylinder. You can either go to the manager and tell them your problem or just eat it and get new wires and route them yourself. I'd even get new plugs because you never know if those ****** may have cracked a plug when putting them in.
Basically you should check the wires that are on the car now and see if any of them are crispy. If not then just replace the plugs and see what happens. If they are then do both plugs and wires.
If you want you can try to pinpoint what cylinder is giving you trouble by pulling each fuel injector clip off one at a time and see if your idle doesn't change. Basically every injector clip you pull off (again.. one at a time) should vary the idle. You pull one and the idle stays the same you have found your problem cylinder. Even if you find one where the idle does not vary you should pull all clips to see if it is one or more cylinders.
Good luck
