No More Cats
#2
I only had one cat on my 94 and I cut it off. I do think I gained about .1 and maybe 1mph in the 1/4mile. The exhaust sound is now much raspier and louder. I do have headers, ypipe, and hotcam also so it helps to hear the cam more now. The downside is that the car stinks pretty bad now. I dont mind it at all but most other people that ride in the car comment on how it smells.

It's not weird at all. I just removed mine today, i ended up putting my own pipe on but I'm going to have a piece welded tomororw because i'm noticing a little bit of a thumping sound when i hit bumps. SOUNDS SWEET. I don't notice any bad smell????

Also as far as the smell goes, Im sure having a cam probably makes it worse than if you still have the stock cam.

I'm in CA too, I just moved here. I just got my car smog'd and it passed with flying colors. I was talking to the mechanic about it and he said that it would DEFFINATELY not pass emissions if I gutted the cats. But, I have dual cats. Another thing that he said is that being a CA car if I gut my cats then it will throw a code and will probably only just long enough to get to a station to get it fixed. I don't know how the O2 sensors are set up on a 95Z but on the 96 there are four sensors, two heated and two down stream (after the cat). If you don't have one after the cat then you should be good...except for the emissions part. Again, this is just what the mechanic told me.
