No Odometer, but speedo works???

No Odometer, but speedo works???
I noticed that while the speedo and tach work fine, the odometer and trip don't work at all. The previous owner did put in white faced guages.
I would have thought that the VSS sensor runs the speedo AND the odometer right? How could one work and not the other? Maybe he broke the cluster?
Any ideas how to test this?
Thanks!

Re: No Odometer, but speedo works???
The odometer works off of a small DC motor (if you have a non digital odometer).
The motor receives a signal which it then rotates. It is connected to spur gears which spins the odometer numbers. Either the motor could be damaged or he "misaligned" the the spur gears so that it does not turn the odometer and his milage does not increase.

Re: No Odometer, but speedo works???
I pulled the cluster off and inspected it and noticed the motor. It looked to be aligned fine and everything seemed fine. I am guessing the motor is bad.
Does anyone know of a part number or place to buy one of these motors?
I need some of the dummy light bulbs and the plastic piece that holds the bulb in the cluster.
Thanks again.

Re: No Odometer, but speedo works???
Well assuming the motor is plugged in, then its probably shot. i might have a spare one out of a TA. i don't know if it'll work but you can have it for free. i swapped in a TA dash into my car and the trip odometer out of the cluster i got didn't work. So i swapped in a different odometer. i know it sounds stupid but i feel lost with out a trip odometer it really helps me keep an eye on mileage and stuff.

You might want to try to re seat the connector on the tranny. It probably wont work, but I know there is a connector on the tranny that has to do with the speedo or tac.
