is this normal with the hotcam?

Since I've had the hotcam, the car will stumble at idle, like it wants to stall out. The car also shakes I can deal with the low idle I just don't like the shaking.

Did you get it reprogrammed after the cam?
sounds like they ned to raise your idle speed a little.
But the cam does lope though, so expect the idle to be less then perfect.

I did order a pcm tune and when I put it in, it ran worse, the SES light would flash and it would misfire i'm thinking I got a bad pcm and now waiting for bryan to get back from vacation to see what the deal is! I just didn't think the hotcam with lope like this untuned!

Yah you prolly need to get a custom tune for it. It will not only fix your idle problem, but it will also allow you to get the most out of your cam....

Later man,

If you have a throttle body airfoil take it out.

Bryan will fix the problem. He did mine for me with the engine and all the mods put it at once. Car purrs like a kitten from the start at about 900r's. Its the tune though, IMO.

You might have your rocker arms adjusted wrong. Too tight will mess with the idle.

I think you got a bad pcm too. I have the pcmforless tuning and mine idles fine. Brian will take care of the problem for you, he is good to deal with

Bryan just emailed me, he thinks it might be a bad pcm. I'm hoping it is. He has been great to do business with.

What would the rationale for removing the air foil? Or were you j/k?

TenaciuosZ,
I have a 52 mmTB w/ Hypertech airfoil and a hot cam kit, w/ programming by HPPIII. The idle speed is set at 850 rpm which works weel for me.. The cam will lope pretty good due the 112 lsa. Hope this helps!

Some of them block the IAC from getting accurate readings.

When I first put my motor back together, I had an airfoil on it. The car would idle at 550 rpm, and die when I turned the AC on. The airfoil was blocking the IAC valve from getting enough air. I thought Bryan had messed up my idle speed at first, but when I took the airfoil out the idle came right up to the 850 rpm that I specified.

Guys, if he just put in a hotcam kit i think it is something else other than the tune. I had the same thing, turned out my rockers were all adjusted wrong, despite the fact that i followed proper procedures. Might also want to check plug wires for arcing because i had that problem as well. I would point my finger at the tune absolutely last.

Thanks for the heads up on that! I had not heard that airfoils could cause such a problem, but I can see how it could happen. Do all airfoils block the IAC valve? If not, do we know which ones are the culprits? This is like finding out that cigarettes cause cancer after you been smoking for 25 years!
