Not a typical Head Gasket Question......

I posted about the shop having to pull everything off to take off the one side head to fix the stripped spark plug hole on the heads....WELL..

The shop is going to use FELPRO gaskets on the head which has a 0.039 size and stock is 0.050 . Is the different compresion ratios on the two sides of the engines going to matter or is the difference not a deal at all and my being paranoid.

If it was my car I would not do it. I would put a stock gasket on.

Well, other than running higher compression on one bank than the other I see nothing wrong with it.:blah:

I would get the right one.

I am not that familiar with the underhood of the Camaros so maybe I am wrong here, but I see another option once one head is off how much more work could it be to pull the second, then you would have two new gaskets and they could use the Felpro.

You'll be fine using the Fel-Pro's.

*Nevermind, I just saw they're only replacing one head gasket.

for me Id pay the extra to replace both gaskets with the impala gasket .029" but if thats not an option, put the stocker back in there. yes, dealerships will carry that head gasket.

I don't think running a different gasket on one side is going to cause any problems, especially on a stock block. Hell the piston is so far down in the hole on a stock engine that it makes little difference. However, if it were me I would:

1. Replace it with a stock gasket, they are readily available.
2. Replace both.

Mainly because I'm a little **** when it comes to my car. I'd probably start hearing noises from that side, just because I'd know I had a different gasket on it. Aren't Camaros wonderful.

I would just pull the other head as well and do BOTH gaskets. Especially something so critical like HEAD GASKETS

Wel all the work is guranteed and if it blows a head gaske or whatever I know it is on his *** and to be taken care of. He told me the felpro gaskets were better than the stockers.

I don't see it making a difference but I am not a car expert. Well, is one head gasket going to affect the other side of the engine????

It wont be a BIG deal w/ the 2 diff. gaskets but its easy nuff to get a factory gasket(thats what I would do if I was in that position)... As far as spark plug threads, Always use Anti-seize compound on them and dont remove them hot..
Good luck.
