Question O2 extensions....

When making O2 extensions, I always hear you aren't supposed to cut the wires from the sensor to it's pigtail connector. If you are to make extensions, to always extend the PCM side, not the sensors. Why is this? It doesn't seem it would make any electrical sense. Has anyone ever extended the "sensor side" successfully? Or has anyone ever had any problems with doing this? I have hooker LT's and need extension and was going to do it myself. It would be much easier to do the sensor side, not the PCM. Thanks for any input.

I couldn't figure it out either so I just extended the pcm side. Besides, that way, when your sensors fail, you don't need to do the whole thing over again. Just make sure the wire you use has lots of fine strands (like the wire you're splicing into) and is the same gauge. I'm told the number of strands and the gauge are what determine resistance of the wire.

Anyways, I haven't had any problems with extending the pcm side yet.. knock on wood.. and it's been several months. Just find the wires and pull them out of the tubing, cut and solder them.. put some newsprint around to keep the solder from getting where it doesn't belong.

I know this doesn't really answer you question... but I hope it still helps

I never had any problems extending the O2 sensor side, but then again there have been people who have had problems. I'd just buy an extension because when it comes time to replace your O2 sensors you'll need one anyway, either that or you'll have to splice into another sensor. (I finally replaced mine with an extension recently).
