Oil on 77k motor

I've decided to go with the k&n hp 3002, napa gold (medium), or mobile 1 (tall) oil filters due to the fact that my car hasn't ran in years and I'm trying to trap as many impurities in the oil as possible. The oil is my next question. With my motor having 77k miles on it and a small leak coming from either the timing cover or oil pan I'm worried that running mobile 1 synthetic 5w30 might make the leak worse. Are there any safter alternatives to run? Would I be alright with the synthetic or should I stick with the non synthetic oil that i've been running? What type of non synthetic is good? Thanks a ton

If youve got leaks go with Castrol High Milleage, my cars got 38k on it and I put 10w-30 high millage in. It helps conditions the seals to stop the leak a little.

do you think the 10w-30 is a little high or no?

I ran 10w-30 in the nyc summer, infact in the book for my 1997 it says you can use 10w-30 if its not going to get below freezing, you'd have to switch if you drive the car in the winter. I use 0w-40 right now, year round from mobil, but now i live in texas. I also have a leak, I think its from the front of the intake.

I bought my 94 Z with around 75k on it and started using Mobil 1 immediately. The motor was leaking oil when I got it, but I resealed the intake manifold which cut down about 90% of the leak, and I didn't notice any other leaks forming or getting worse in the several years I owned and regularly flogged that car.

I'm positive it is not an intake manifold leak
