oil leak mystery

I have a 94 Z28 with a oil leak I just cant seem to figure out and looking for any ideas or anyone who has had a similar issue. I had been smelling something like burning oil on exhaust for a week or so, after crawling under car to inspect, I found the area above the oil filter, the transmission pan and surrounding area had oil on it. It obviously was getting back on the exhaust pipe and cat, thus the smell. Its not tranny fluid, its brown and smells like oil . I thought it maybe was a bad gasket on the oil filter, since I had recently changed it, so I went ahead and replaced the filter. But, not sure why i have oil on block above filter. Its not coming from the valve covers, I checked that and had recently replaced the vc gaskets. Is there any plug, gasket , etc , in that area around the filter? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Re: oil leak mystery

Probably the intake. Run your hand along the back of the intake. If it comes back oily, it's the intake.

Re: oil leak mystery

It could be your intake gasket or oil pressure sensor. I recently replaced my intake gaskets and it leaked in the back. It ran down along the valve covers and down the block on the back. The oil pressure sensor sits on an elbow attachment and also goes into the block at the back of the intake.

Re: oil leak mystery

The EARLY 94's still have the oil pressure sensor right above the oil filter, like the 93's. The LATER 94's have it on top of the block behind the intake manifold.
