oil pressure while priming engine?

Ok, I'm priming the new engine with my Black and Decker drill that's rated at 0-1500 RPM. At max speed, I'm showing 45 PSI on my MAC guage that I have in my pressure port directly above my oil filter.
Anyone else have a guage on theirs, while priming it? Should this equate to 45 PS!/cold with the engine running at 1500 RPM's.

This is a Jegs standard volume pump with the 50-55 PSI spring in it and 10W30 oil. The pump also comes with a 65-70 PSI spring, and an 80-90 PSI spring.

the crank turns twice as fast as the cam so...1500 rpm would be 3,000

The drill probly isn't going to have the power to turn 1500 with the load on it.

If you got 45 psi from a drill I would say that pretty good.....does it bog down when it starts pulling oil?

Um...Got a little update. I modified my primer to incorporate my distributor plug. I wanted to get oil to the right bank pushrods. Without the plug, a SBC won't allow oil to cross over. With the plug in it, and the same drill, I'm pumping 68 PSI.

Check to make sure that oil is being pumped through all the pushrods. When you're sure that all 16 are passing oil, you're good to go.

I would expect rotating parts to sling oil out easier so IMO worrying about pressure at priming is pretty pointless.

I hate to bring this back from the dead, but how did you modify that to work?

The tool I'm using, the collar won't plug the hole, or even close to it, and oil is coming up out of it.

60psi. Used a Rt angle drive chuck on a 1/2 inch hand drill (Crane cam oiler tool). No intake manifold so drill fit under the cowl. Rotated the crank 90 degrees and did mutiple times.

How are people getting it to quit leaking oil from around the tool?

The collar that comes with the tool is too big to fit where it's supposed to be.

You have bigger issues than oil pressure priming problems if you have leaks around your tool. You beat me to it Rich!

Are you using a priming tool that is similar to one of these?:

I have both of those in the pic above. for my summit oiling tool, I had to use sand paper to shrimk the diam. of the "sleeve" to fit down into the block. no big deal, just took about 20 min.s turning it in my hand to "shrink" down the diam. of the sleeve until it fit. obviously, you need to clean the sleeve before attempting to put it into the block. dont want that dust in the oil now do you.
