Which oil pump?
Hey Guys , can you help me out? I am rebuilding my 93 LT1 camaro back to stock specs. There are two types of Melling oil pumps...High volume and standard. Info I have suggests the old oil pump is a high volume, cant confirm that with out calling chevy...Any way, which one is the correct Oil pump? Thanks in advance

Stock is not high volume and don't use one with a stock pan. 93s and early 94s came with a 5/8" inlet pump. That was changed to 3/4" in late 94 through 97.
I recommend the following (with GM part numbers):
oil pump 3/4" inlet 93442037
12555283 (old p/n)
oil pump screen 3/4" tube 12550042
white oil pump spring 3848911

One more thing, I am having a little trouble visualizing the hieght adjustment procedure...Of course you cant do it with the pan on...just a little confused on what I use as a reference to take the measurement????

Measurement between pickup and pan bottom? Press the pickup tube into the pump and put the oil pan on while the pump is in place. Use the pan to push the pickup into position as it (the pan) would be installed. That will set the height for the pickup. Tack weld it in place (recommended) and you're set.

Excellent...Thank you CB96z28. However, I am tasked with yet one more question to ask. I installed the oil pump last night. The installation went smooth, everything lined up and I was able to bolt it down...no problems. What is really nagging me is that the intermiediate oil pump shaft has about 1/4 inch up and down play installed? This is a new shaft from melling with the Metal sleeve already incorporated with the shaft. Just to satisfy my curiosity, I attached the old shaft using the plastic sleeve...al ittle bit of play, but not much. The shafts are identical in length ? There are notches on the end of the shaft that engage the plastic sleeve, but not the metal sleeve?
The answer is probaly simple, they gave me the wrong shaft right? Dont know...Any input? any one?
