oil pumps

I am building a 355 forged eagle crank esp eagle rods je pistons, etc. I am wondering what oil pump to upgrade to keep these high dollar items lubed. Dry sump?,oil pan, high volume oil pump.

The car will be driven on the street alot and and trips to the drag strip and possibly road courses.

knowledge ideas and part #s would be appriciated

Thanks Mark Tisdale

A new stock oil pump would work fine with the stock pan, If you really wanna go all out you can do a deep sump pan with a high volume pump. Ive heard a couple times to try and stay away from high volume pumps and stock pans. Not that it will cause damage, jsut kind of a danger. Theres your two options mainly, and no to the dry sump

Good friend of mine made 1,125HP on a blown 383 LT1 (9.04@155mph in a 3,900# convertible). He used a stock oil pan, a stock oil pump with the pickup tack welded, and a "white" spring (80psi). I only pull a lowly 800HP with my nitroused 381 LT1, and never having had an original thought - just copy things that I know work - also use a stock oil pan, a blueprinted stock oil pump with the pickup tack welded, and a "white" spring (80psi). Both these engines are 7,000+RPM solid roller setups. Both have been running (or were run) for more than 3 years with no problems.

You dont need a high volume oil pump, as Inguneer said the stock one with a white spring (some call it the Z28 spring) will be more than enough for your set-up.

If you get a high volume pump your pan and windage and flowback have to be really well thought out, especially with the stock pan. If you want something that high zoot just for giggles get an expensive stock volume blueprinted pump with anti chatter grooves and enlarged entry already done, other wise I would just blueprint a new stock pump, add the spring and make some anti chatter grooves along with radiusing the entry into the pump and in the main cap.

stock GM oil pump is fine. They used 2 different sized pickup diameters until 1996, which the larger was standard.I would buy a stock pump witht eh large diameter pickup and also ditch the stock oil pump drive shaft for one that comes with a metal retainer.
