Ok to not use oil windage tray?

On my current build I did four bolt mains but did not use the longer studs for the windage tray. I plan on buying a pan off of ebay that has a baffle for oil control so im guessing it wont really matter right? This is the last time i want to put this motor in so im just double checking everything. Thanks.

I'd rather have that windage tray in place, but it's hard to make a recommendation without seeing the aftermarket pan you're referring to.

I could post a link to the pan but you cant tell squat off of the pics. Im going off of the description of the pan that a couple gave in a thread alomost a year ago. " It has a trap door baffle for decl. and the regular side baffeling in the deep part of the pan" - from thread stated above.

Based on this question I just asked and the response I got, I bought the correct studs to keep my windage tray.

Very glad I did!

Some of the new high-tech LTX oil pans (i.e., Moroso) have a built-in wind-age tray, scrapers and baffles; therefore you don’t need to use the stock wind-age tray. And it won’t fit anyway with the new aftermarket pans.

If your new pan has a tray or baffle over the oil sump area then "maybe" it will work ok. Maybe not. The stock tray seems to work very well because it's so close to the crank and stops a lot of the crank air.

If the oil pan description is as such, "trap doors" "windage screen" then that won't work as a windage tray where it counts, (over the oil pump pickup in the oil supply/sump area). The tray needs to be protecting the oil pump pickup.

The stock tray can be trimmed or bent to fit if your new pan interferes.

Just keep the air from the crank from pounding the oil in the sump. If your new pan can do that then the stock tray will not be needed.

Regarding the Milodon studs, do I need three of these?

I had to use three Milodon studs to keep my factory windage tray two. The ARP's were 1/2" short.

Ok well I just bought the morosso pan so I can plop the dam thing in for the last time. The stock windage tray wouldnt fit with my new pan anyway so two birds one stone eh.

Temporarily install the pan, the rotate the engine to check for crank/rod clearance on the scraper and windage tray.

Also, my new Moroso pan had two leaks, a missed weld around the drain-plug bung and a bad weld in another place. So you may want to put some thin oil in the pan before installing it to see if it leaks.
