OMG...Brand new motor...Spun bearing. :o(

Took the new 355 LT1 on a small drive this morning and now I have rod knock that increases with RPM . I have been driving it in short durations without beating on it real hard.

I drained the oil and it has copper galore in it as well as the filter. Why in the hell did this happen? I ran .002" on the rods and .0025 on the mains. All bolts were torqued perfectly. Bearings installed perfectly. I did the work myself but I was assisted by professionals. I obviouly screwed up somewhere.

It will be a few weeks till I can pull the motor, my newborn twins were born over the weekend so I have bigger priorities.

Who wants to speculate on what went wrong here?

I cleaned the bearing backs as well as the caps with break cleaner, but I would guess this is the most likely reason so far.

Damn dude I am sorry to hear that. I too infact just dropped a motor in and it may have some issues. I cannot get crap for oil pressure and it doesn't raise at all with revs.
congrats on the twins though. Just think of it this way, you wouldn't be able to drive the car much anyway right now with 2 newbies.

P bearings with forged crank, so radii were to tight?

Just throwing possibilities out there for consideration. As I understand the P has much smaller radii than typical radiused aftermarket crank, which would use H style. Wild guess. No offense, I doubt you would have missed that.

I used Federal Mogul speed pro bearing. Should I have used the Clevites?

As bad as it sucks it happens. Even nascar motors let go with very little miles on them. I wouldn't beat yourself up to much over it. Unless you take it apart and find out you forgot to tq one rod bolt or something then you need to get a xtra large boot and kick yourself.. Good luck with the twins and the motor.

So what are the chances this bearing took the crankshaft out?

Absolutely no idea until you take it out and have it inspected.

wrd, sorry to hear about the fresh bullet. But the good news is the twins, and once their a little bigger, well lets just say their the only ones that will fit in the back seat. Boys, girls, or one of each?

congrats on the twins

I'd guess the radii on the bearings and/or junk in the oil passages.
