If he can get an opti for a 93-94 for 220.00 I want one also. My experience is that the unvented optis are quite a bit more expensive than their vented brethren. That was one thing that made the aftermarket alternatives more attractive. My hometown Chevy dealer quoted me 450 for an unvented opti.

The $220 price is for the vented, you would need to call Dal (search here or shoebox's page for a number) for a price on the non vented.

I say go OEM from Dal. Great price and he can probably overnight one to you if you need one that fast. I had to do a OEM warranty replacement on one through Dal and it went very smooth and timely.

Yah .. sorry I missed that it was a non-vented (skimming), the $220 was what
I paid for the 95 Impala SS one - shipped with o-rings, seals and WP gaskets.
I think that the non-vented is about 240-260, call or email him. He will get to
you pretty much over night. Great guy!

I replaced my '93 non-vented at 154,000 because I kept reading the alarmists
posts about them going bad. Car was running bad, everyone said opti. Nope I
replaced a good opti. Turned out to be the NEW Accel coil went bad. I got
that opti from the local DEALERSHIP - cost me $638 dollars. Was after that I
got an Impala, joined the Impala forum, and found Dal!

EDIT : The '93 will turn over 240,000 tomorrow and the heads have never
even been off the engine! Valve seals replaced twice.

Thanks for the thoughts guys, I appreciate it. I can get a GMPP unit from Summit for $395.95 or an MSD unit for $515.88, both with free shipping and a $10 handling charge.

As for my orig. Opti, it lasted nearly 140k mi. and 14 yrs. Not too shabby for a non-vented unit I'd say

I just got off the phone with Thunder, still nothing. Got off the phone with Summit, they have both the GMPP (OEM, whatever) and MSD units in stock at the Reno warehouse (closest one to me) and I could have one by Mon. at the latest. Plus I could use the extra money on the GN.

So, I'm going with the general consensus is to cancel the order, yes? Any word on the latest MSD units? Are they still problem-prone or have they gotten better? Thanks as always.

Jason or Dal can probably get you an OEM replacement for ~ 300 + shipping. If you aren't comfortable with the aftermarket alternatives, I would get in touch with them.

I say go with the oem-even if its unvented. I got mine from Dal-very good to deal with, and quickly shipped too. Really, I dont think its worth any extra cash for an aftermarket piece. Mine put in 105k before replacement, and installation wasn't hard at all. If it goes out, I'l slap another one on...

Just got my car back together a couple of weeks ago and I went with a Dynaspark, great looking part and mine was a non-vented originally and I like the fact that it adds vent tubes.

It did take a couple of weeks I ordered mine direct from Dynaspark, and he let me know when I placed the order that he was a little behind it's a busy time of year everyone trying to get their winter projects finished up for the track. Be patient it was definately worth it!
