opti dist.
i was wondering if any after market companies make a preformance opti? like msd or accel. i just got my first LT1 1995 camaro Z/28 with alum. heads, an automatic transmission, an car has no spark, not had chance to really look at it yet to see why! but planning on doing some port an polish work to heads an intake an larger throttle body an lil bigger injecters an a chip, an any improve ments can be done to that 4L60E trany?

MSD make a "billet" Opti, that is overpriced and offeres no real benefit over the factory piece. Dynaspark offers a unit that seems to be constructed better. A lot of people have made some really big HP with a stock GM (GM Performance Parts, AC Delco, Delphi) Opti. You shouldn't need anything more than the stock piece with your limited planned mods. And there is no replaceable "chip" in a 95 LT1 PCM. It requires flash programming.

One alternative is to go to the Bailey LTCC coil-per-cylinder setup, using 8 LS1 coils. The system uses only the optical cam position sensor in the Opti. Removing the high voltage functions from the Opti appear to eliminate most of the problems.

Or the ultimate, the EFIConnection 24X system that totally eliminates the Opti, adds a reluctor wheel type cam position sensor to the timing cover, and run an LS1 PCM, driving the 8 LS1 coils. Pricey though, and probably over-kill for 99% of the applications.
