Re: Opti replacement source

I've been lucky as well, but it looks like a more rugged part would have came along by now. Since theyve not been sold on a factory car since the late 90's I doubt we ever will.

Yes, because there is a definite art to installing 3 bolts

Delphi/AC Delco all the same...original GM equipment. I have the Delphi on my car two years now...solid as a rock.

As there also is an art to checking the dowel pin length, putting the dowel pin or the correct spline in the correct hole, insuring the vent system is operating correctly, not forcing the unit on when installing those 3 bolts, etc.

I would seriously question a setup that has eaten 5 Opti's and is still eating them.

Me too. I've never had one quit on me. I bought my Z28 in '99 and it ran on the same opti until 2008 when I installed my CC503 and roller rockers. The only reason I got a new one(delco opti) was because I had it apart. Seemed like a good time to do some PM work. I still have the old one as a "backup" just in case.

You think that dowel pin and spline alignment have a lot to do with the corrosion inside? Being as its a 94, that vent system is extremely complicated. I realize that my lowly 12.6 is nothing for your pansy gas hotrod, but I think I can figure out how to measure and line up splines. Like clockwork, every other year when it comes out of storage, the optical sensor is shot. I live in Iowa, I've owned the car for 10 years, and spin it to 6900 daily. Question it now. For being a "Super Mod", you really do come across as a pompous *** and are the sole reason I rarely rely on this forum for any for technical help.

I'm not sure what you mean by that....to my understanding, there are only 3 holes in the bottom of it for venting. That was it's problem, no forced air to vent the ozone.

Re: Opti replacement source

I was being sarcastic. I just finished reading the EWP thread and Fred's little gem up there was enough. The Elitist attitude that was displayed in that thread was appalling, and to take a stab at me (5 opti's over a 10 year span) with no knowledge of anything about me was beyond uncalled for.

Thanks for the kind words.

Another name for my "ignore" list.

Re: Opti replacement source

if you do an opti every other year and you know its not your error messing them up then just buy an autozone opti. its got a lifetime warranty so every time it goes out you only out a few hours of R&R time and your back running. I use them one of my LT1's and they work fine till they go out. keep your spline shaft from your current opti though. the autozone ones have a built in shaft but if you ever want to go back to gm optis they require you use the old shaft and you cannot buy the shaft anywhere that i know of.
