opti took a crap

Heres some info about my car its a 97 camaro ss 6spd.Yesterday I decided I would fix my oil leaks on my timing cover. I replaced the waterpump drive seal which was leaking and I replaced the opti seal.I was careful when I removed the waterpump not to spill any coolant onto the opti.So I got the car all back together and went to go started and nothing it just cranks.I checked all my connections, grounds, and fuses everything is good.I checked for spark and theres no spark. So I used the sticky on this page proper method to diagnosing a bad opti.We tested everything and it looks like the pcm isnt recieving any signals to fire the icm. Then we tested the opti harness and the harness is good.I also scanned my car for codes and nothing came up.pretty much the whole system is dead does that mean the opti is shot? The car ran good 7 hours before I worked on it.

Bummer!! that always sucks... fix one thing and another part takes a dump!! Maybe its something really simple that you may have overlooked, although it sounds like you were pretty thorough. GL!

I really hope it is something I overlooked, these optis arent cheap. It deff does seem like you fix one thing then something else breaks.

Mike,

Did you make sure the opti was indexed correctly?

I was careful doing it correctly but I keep questioning myself now.Would that cause a no spark if the opti was put on wrong?

Where did you check for spark at, the coil or the plug wires?

I pulled the coil wire off and tested it from there.

If the opti is bad, it won't send the signals to the PCM for the ICM to fire the coil. I'd say the problem lies in the opti. If you've already done the "shoebox" diagnosis, then the opti is the culprit.

when you say you tested the opti harness you mean you ohm the wires? Have you check to see if you get 1-5 volts DC from the low res wire red/black and 1-5 volts DC from the high res wire purple/white?

On the opti harness we measured the resisTance. Me and my brother did everything on the sticky on this page On diagnosing a bad opti. And all the test we did there was no signs of the opti sending any signal out. If I remember correctly the only power we were getting was 12volts from the two wires from the Icm to the coil. I'm going to pull the opti off in a couple of days is it possible to spin the opti by hand and put a noid light on it to see if there's any power coming out of it?

Alright I'm really in over my head with this. I pulled the opti off I left te opti harness plugged in and turned the key to the on position and I spun the opti by hand. I can hear the injectors come on everytime I spin it so I know the opti is sending a signal to the PCM. Does anyone have any ideas why the icm isn't recieving any signal?

Before you did the pump seal the car was working fine i assume. What kind of voltage do you have on the high res and low res wire going to the pcm when you spin the shaft on the opti. Your could ohm the white wire from the pcm to the ICM. Did you check for A/C voltage at the White Wire B at ICM connector?
