Angry Optispark? Ugh, I hate typing that...

Drove my 96 SS to work Tuesday, parked it at 745am. Went to leave work at 515pm and no start. Cranks, but no start.

No spark from coil.
New ICM
New Coil
No movement from tach, no RPM reading on scan tool.

Any ideas? I just replaced Opti-Spark 6 months ago...not looking forward to doing it again, but that is the answer I'm stuck on.

Please use the sticky at the top of the page to do a diagnosis on the OPTI and don't just change it out. The first thing to check is the short harness pluggin into the opti...corrosion in there is a possibility.

If the tach is not responding, it MIGHT be pointing to a problem with the optical cam position sensor. Or the harness, as Bruce pointed out. If there is a problem, it would set codes. You indicate you have a scanner - are you seeing any codes?

What brand Opti did you install? The cheap Chinese ripoffs from ebay often don't last 6 months.

No codes relating to this problem... EGR, O2 sensor reading high (no cats), etc... Your computer won't send codes until it is ran. If you clear your codes, unplug an O2 sensor, and never start the car, it won't throw an O2 sensor code. Since it never started after I was parked, it didn't get a chance to throw a code. It was running like a charm until I parked it. 9 hours later, no start. I installed an ACCELL brand optispark. Turns out it was a year ago, but regardless, too soon.

If it's the Opti cam position sensor it will set the codes as soon as you try and start it.
