Overheating, but the thermostat is fine...
I turned the engine off and left the key in the on position and noticed that none of the fans came on. Do the fans on LT1 engines cut on and off regardless of the engine running?

You will if they blow a fuse. The code will not be related to the cooling fans though....It will throw a code on the air pump. I believe they are on the same circuit. The fuse is under the hood.....A/P - Fan fuse
I had a costly experience with this....I left the car running while pulling the code...(I didn't know if was a fuse at the time....).....while I was looking a the computer I smelled coolant and saw steam from under the hood.
I knew it was the fuse then, cause the cooling fans didn't work.....anyway the temp pegged. It never cooled right after that....took it to the dealership because it was under warranty(aftermarket) at the time. The overheating had warped the heads 0.003-0.005. They found the problem by testing my coolant for hydrocarbons. It tested positive. (Really got to hand it to the fella working on this thing....he knew his stuff). They showed me the head gaskets and you could see where the coolant was moving into back and forth between coolant passages with the gasket was not being clamped properly. Cost $2000.00 to fix the heads(cleanup milling). Warranty picked up $1500 and I paid $500.
I feel it warped the heads, because I slapped a fuse in it and got it cooled down fast. I kinda feel if I had let it cool naturally, it wouldn't have warped the heads.
