Overheating + Machining the heads

So my car blew a headgasket a few weeks ago. turns out the heads were very corroded so I sent them in to get machined. turns out because it was overheating so bad, they had to machine off 20,000ths to get them straight again. They told me as if it was an insane amount.

Is that a lot? heh. Also, since they took off, what I'm assuming is a lot, will my heads be more prone to cracking now, even if it doesn't overheat anymore?
