pacesetter gaskets

I got my lt's yesterday and am going to put them on Monday on my day off and I was wondering if yall used the gaskets that they sent with the kit or did yall spend a little more money on a set of good gaskets? Will it hurt to use the ones with the kit?? And what did yall use for gaskets??

Re: pacesetter gaskets

Don't use what they come with - though some have had success using the paper gaskets they supply AND a copper RTV supplement. It's good insurance to purchase some Felpro 1406s, etc..do a search, you will find lots of info!

Re: pacesetter gaskets

I was a cheap *** and used the ones with the kit and I've been rewarded with a great set of leaks, and now I get to buy some better gaskets and go through putting them on, woohooo!!!!!!!!!

Re: pacesetter gaskets

I see. So i will put in the order in the morning for the copper ones and do it right the first time. I have already spent over a grand on new parts. What is another 20 or 30 gonna hurt. Its gonna be a busy weekend.

Re: pacesetter gaskets

burned paper gaskets are not fun to scrape off the heads in the f-body engine compartment.

Some people found copper gaskets too stiff to seal properly and have had resultant leaks. I've had felpro 1406's for years with my hooker shorties (after blowing 2 sets of paper ones) and they have been good to me.

Re: pacesetter gaskets

Got the 1406's and got the headers on. The only issue was getting the car high enough. Once i did they slid right in from the bottom. Special tool....8x8x12 concrete blocks to put under the jack and jack stands. It was actually a pretty easy job.

Re: pacesetter gaskets

Summit Racing has the FEL-1406 as the part number fairly decent price also.

Re: pacesetter gaskets

Wow, i must be the only idiot here that used the gaskets that came with the Pacesetters. "knock On Wood", but so far they have worked really good. No leaks whatsoever. I ran em for a bit and tightened the bolts again hot, and seems to working good so far. I'll have the heads off soon for the LE2 kit, then I will probably upgrade.

Re: pacesetter gaskets

Any auto parts store can get them. I called the local little store here in bellville and they came by 2 pm. I would also check out the hardware store there and pick up 6 8x8x12 concrete blocks. That is unless you have a lift to work with.

I used the paper ones included, with a coat of copper seal on both sides. Leak free since october.......

Re: pacesetter gaskets

Well now I am done. I just got them all bolted up. After i got them in there I stopped. It was like getting to the top of a hill. I got there and took a break. Got a fresh start this afternoon and got it all together. some of the bolts were not too easy to get to. Im glad i finally got the headers. I have been talking about it for about 2 years now.
