Just a small update--the increases were due to the mod, and not just the cooler air. I scanned it again in warmer weather (70s F), with IATs in the 30s C, and I still hit 306gps around 5300-5400 RPM.
So, it works! I may put another layer on, to increase filtering.

JSK, what kind of engine setup are you running?

I know some one that did the same thing with his third gen. It is great for the track, not the street. Some one stated it is like a vacuum, it is! Combustion engines, in air, add fuel, and push exhust. The person I knew that did the same thing as you are pulled into a parking lot that was covered with dirt, sucked it through the intake, and blew the engine. When he pulled the engine apart, the rings and pistons were covered with oil and SAND!

I agree......I see this at the track quite abit and tried it once but saw no gains in mph or et. Filters are made the way they are for a good reason.....ever wonder why you dont see a Leggs display at the parts store

I also do still have my MAF sensor screen intact.
When I check the hose, there are sometimes small pieces of debris, which tells me that it is working somewhat at least.

Internally stock engine. I have no doubt it's made a difference, both SOTP, as well as by scanning (increase in airflow). The question is whether it filters enough.

I still would only do the pantyhose mod at the track.
