parking break help

Ok heres the deal I pull on my parking brake and it doesn't work. The light comes on but the brake won't stop the car from moving. I have tried pulling on it about 50 times in a row and it didn't self adjust so I took some pics of it today can anyone tell what is wrong with it? Looks like a spring my be missing. http://community.webshots.com/album/77668590nNZKfJ that's a link to the webpage since they are on webshots. Thanks for you help. EDIT Here's what I think is wrong http://community.webshots.com/s/imag...8HTTgDF_ph.jpg in that picture I think the piece on top of the gear closest to the camera is supposed to be spring loaded and catch the gear. Well it doesn't unless I manually put it down. Then the brake cable is pulled and tension builds really fast to the point I can't pull it up enough to lock it in place some where.

It is definately going up to far. It looks like you lost the spring that goes to the piece that catches on the big gear. It is sping loaded so there will be tension on it. Just find a tight spring that will fit and you should be set.

So pretty much, I just said the same thing you did, lol. But I would say that is definately your problem.

Yup, your just missing the small spring that causes the arm to catch in the sprocket grooves..Im sure it fell off or broke..

I don't know the part number or anything, but I would think almost any spring would work.

http://www.projecttransam.com/Projec...0/MVC-893F.jpg ya but I don't know if I could find a spring like that anywhere. it is like a clothes line clip except it pushes out instead of pinches.

I checked and couldn't find a part number for it. If you have to, you might be able to rig something up, that pulls it down, instead of pushing it. You might have to buy a whole new ebrake to get that spring though, since there doesn't seem to be a part number for it. Or check out the junkyards I guess.

Ya that's what I am starting to think. I just want to avoid the dealership. $80/hr is way too much to pay.
