just search for cam swap or something similar....many include part numbers
get the trick flow or gmpp guide plate.
Also replace the timing chaine...just replace it with a stocker, you can get alot of those gaskets locally cheaper, but if you want to one stop shop....

As for "one stop shop", I live only 5 minutes from Summit Racing's retail store so I don't have to wait for delivery.

i have heard alot of people talk about problems with the hardening of those guideplates, i would use the trick flow units, and while your at it the trick flow chromolly pushrods are a very good deal too

painted headers is a bad choice, you NEED stainless or coated, this is not just about rust but about heat control.
New lifters is usually wasted money, as are new valvecover gaskets, and coil. Take all that savings and put it towards 7/16" studs and get the appropriate rockers for those studs.

I would recommend using a spring seat/locator like the Comp 4784-16 instead of the
shims that come in the Crane kit. The Crane kit is designed to install a spring that would
normally install higher (1.85") in an LT1 where you are limited by valve length. As
you know the stock installed height is 1.78". The Crane kit achieves the taller installed
height by using .015" shims instead of a spring seat which is typically .040-.060" and
+.100" retainers.
Here is a cut and paste from a response I put up a while back:
Crane 10308-1 spring kit contains
99893-16 Valve Springs (130# @ 1.85"; 391#/in rate; CB @ 1.08")
99951-16 Retainers (+.100" height comparison)
99097-1 Locks
99050-1 Shims (.015" thick) [.015 x 1.48 x .703]
Comp 4784-16 Spring Seats [.060 x 1.50 x .570; .735 spring ID]
These springs seats would be much better than the crappy shims in the 10308 kit.
Although I have never installed the 99893 springs, they are listed as a 1.85"
recommended installed height. If you assume the this is the installed height with
the POS shims in the kit then you will end up with a 1.805" installed height when
you use .060" spring seats. Crane lists their retainers based on height comparison:
>>The HEIGHT COMPARISON is a measurement value used to compare the installed height
between Crane Cams retainers. (It is not a comparison to a factory or any other
manufacturer’s retainer.) Our starting point is part no. 99914 with the height value
of (.000). All other Crane Cams retainers are either the same, taller (+) or shorter
(-) in installed height.<<
Another possibility for a spring seat is the GM L98 (PN 10185066) seats which I have
no experience with. I belive they are .045" thick and 1.35" OD so they are a tad thinner
and also a little less then the 1.46" OD of the 99893 spring, but there are others that have
run them. You can also do a search of the 10308 kit and find a lot of info.

Thanks for the tips. I'm taking all advice into consideration. I'm not in a huge hurry to finish this work(I do miss my "Throttle Therapy" though).
I've been taking time to really clean things up before reassembly. Here are some pics.
I've decided to drop the oil pan since I need to drop it at least partially to get a good seal on the timing cover. I had a small oil leak down there somewhere anyway, so I'm going to pull the pan and see what the bottom-end looks like. Before I know it I'll be pulling the engine!

If your going to drop the pan might as well install a hi flo pump. Also if I was you I would strongly suggest and electric water pump, noticed a good difference on my mainly stock car. Since you got the w.p. off the hardest part is already done. O yea and that is going to look really good when its all back together.

If you go far enough to drop the pump go with
http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...848911&FROM=MG
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...E&autoview=sku
Couple bucks that will make the oiling system more reliable.
Probably already have most of the gaskets but this is a nice kit just need to add intake gaskets.
