PCMforless yourself tuning problem
Ive checked all my connections, everything is right and has continuity up to the wire connecting to the computer. I get the error "no message sent" or "incorrect message sent" when I run flshread. Basically it wont connect to the PCM. Ive checked to make sure the com ports match and everything, tried it with two laptops, Dell and a Sony. Any ideas????

Are you running some sort of aftermarket ignition like MSD?
Are you sure you're using the right com port on the computer?
Have you used the cable you're trying to connect with before successfully?
Also kind of a stupid question, but you're not trying to connect to the PCM with the engine running, are you?

You would have to use thier Windows FLSH utility, you CAN'T use an MS DOS PROMPT reliably. That is not real DOS, that is NTVDM.
You need to make a Boot Disk, or try F8 at bootup and select COMMAND PROMPT, do not boot into Windows unless you have access to the Windows FLSH utility.
Make sure to do a read before a write so you know things are working.

I use XP and it is giving me a ton of problems sometimes with the connections. INCLUDING the messages you're getting.
I would highly recommend getting a Windows 95/98 Boot Floppy, booting from it and running whatever you're running from it....

Well I did try using the boot disk that you make with the PCMforless, that brian sends. When you start the computer up with the disk in the drive and it automatically goes into dos, it gave me the same message there too. I have access to a laptop with 98 on it, do you think it will work if i try it with that pc?

go to GM & ask them to check if you have the latest edition of software in your car, they should check it for free, I think there were 2 revisions, if they check & say all is fine than you know its your cable, if not they'll tell you they can't scan it, or try some scanning utility or something.

My buddy works at a dealership and Ive used a scantool2 on it before and it worked fine, the only thing i cant do is flash codes by grounding the circuit and watching the SES light flash. But the scantool works fine
