PCV Hose

PCV Hose
I know this may sound elementary to you motor guys... But can I buy "cut to fit" PCV hose for my 1996 Camaro LT1? The current hose which is cracked, is preformed, and I cant seem to find the correct one on the internet.
If so... what is the dimension I need to look for? .. will fuel line work? I really don't want to half a** anything, because as you all know these are cantankerous beasts

Re: PCV Hose
Not sure if this will help, but here's the original part # from Shoebox's site:
1993-1997 RH TB to valve cover hose for PCV air intake 10128365
Have you tried a GM dealer? Not sure if they still make it, but you could also try:
gmpartsdirect.com
Many people seem to delete that hose, and replace it with a valve cover breather/filter, which technically creates a leak of unmetered air into the combutsion process. If you post in "Parts Wanted" you may find someone that has the old hose available.

Re: PCV Hose
I appreciate your replies. This breather filter/fresh air will that impact performance? Is it better to stick with hose? I just want my car to be in good working order as I am trying to save on MPG ... the only time I want to waste gas is when my ego kicks in and I decide to race some young guy

Re: PCV Hose
PCV air intake 10128365 I found that on EBAY for $27.99 plus shipping. Still would like to know how deleting the hose would impact performance. otherwise if the 3/8 ID hose will work (I do need elbows with straight hose)
will any constraint caused bending the hose cause any performance issues as long as it is not totally kinked?

Re: PCV Hose
The hose supplies clean, filtered, MAF measured air, from the throttle body to the valve cover. That air is pulled through the crankcase and lifter valley by the vacuum from the PCV valve in the drivers side of the intake manifold, sweeping away harmful crankcase vapor. The air eventually ends up in the intake.
If you delete the hose and switch to a "breather/filter" you have created a vacuum leak, which will have a minor affect on the combustion process. Once the O2 sensors detect the extra air, the PCM will adjust the long term fuel corrections to add the fuel that would have been added if the air passed through the MAF sensor. Net effect is zero. No impact on performance. No impact on fuel mileage.
If a kinked hose blocks the air flow, it will reduce the effectiveness of the PCV system, possibly increasing crankcase pressure and reducing the removal of harmful blowby gasses, resulting in condensation and acid formation in the engine oil..
