pcv valve-rubber elbow keeps melting/ripping
Anybody else have this problem? The rubber elbow from the pcv valve to the metal tube is ripped. What causes this? It usually gets really hot and starts to melt and get weak. Then it rips. Also what symptoms would this cause? My car runs ok as of now. Thanks.

Shoebox has a photo of the AIR check valves:

Nope, its not the AIR check valves, I removed those. Shoebox, on your part locations site its the rubber hose connecting the pcv valve to that metal tube. I've replace that hose once because it collapsed and was really weak and the new hose pretty much melted and ripped.

Ok, I uploaded the pic to my host, so others could see. It almost looks like a spark plug boot, rather than a real 90° hose. Do you have traction control? I see part of a bracket in that pic that might indicate that. My car has no traction control and a straight hose. Maybe that is how the hose is routed with traction control? I have not seen one up close.

Is it possible an EGR passageway in the intake has opened-up (bad casting, or burned through) into the intake PCV vacuum cavity? And, hot exhaust gasses are destroying the rubber PVC boot? Although, if that happened the engine should have other problems (poor vacuum, Etc.).
Or, he may be talking about the air injection system on the exhaust manifold and not the PVC valve, which was mentioned that a bad check-valve would cause hot exhaust gas blow-by.

Yes I do have traction control. I found a different hose in my garage that I put in, I actually think it was the original hose. Way back when I first got the car I swapped it out in favor of that 90* hose because it fit better. I think that the rubber couldn't handle the heat or something like that, or the elbow wasn't made for it. My car runs great, and it ran great with it ripped like that as well. If it melts this hose however, then I know I have a problem. I was wondering what would happen if I didn't catch this or what would cause the hose to melt through. Thanks again.
