Piston Replacement

I'm currently in the process of replacing a piston due to a bad pin, however, my question is:

The piston that I'm replacing is not exactaly the same, seems to be relieved more, and the second ring groove ( the middle one ) measures .03 bigger than the one that came out, will this cause problems if I use my origional rings they appear to be good?

thanks for your time.

Personally I wouldn't replace the pistons without doing a bore job and new rings.

Let me get this right......you got your motor out and disassembled and your just gonna change the pistons?????

NO, I'm sorry you I must have misslead you. The motor is in the car, the heads and pan are pulled, the # 4 piston is out due to a bad wrist pin. The walls are ok, and the rod and rings are good as well. My only concern is the differance in the pistons, and it causing a problem. I would like to do everything that you mentioned, however my funds are limmited, and I'm tired of walking.

Thanks again

I feel you brother. Just did my 383 rebuild and everytime I try to put it in (this weekend included) I run into a lil drawback (cracked waterpump retainer) that stops everything. Been down 3 months now.

As far as what your asking. Its kinda hard for anyone here to comment. Dunno what brand and type of piston that really is. If I were you I'd walk it down to a local machine shop and ask them. They would give you a better answer that at least you know would be more informative than any anyone here could give you over the thread.

good luck
