Question Planning a rebuild, maybe a 355?

I've had some lifters ticking for a while now and I've been putting serious thought in a rebuild. If I do I was thinking about going with a 355 with LE1 heads and cam package. Where can I get a reliable rebuild kit from? I've seen the ones from Summit, but I just wanted some opinions first. Should I go with the forged for added protection or what? What kind of power can I expect to make from this setup?

If all you want to do is rebuild it, then just buy a simple rebuild kit from Summit. I would wait until I had the engine tore down before I ordered any parts though. You might be surprised to find that you only need to hone the cylinders rather than go to an overbore. If you plan on nitrous or boost down the road, then you may want to consider forged internals. But if not, then I wouldn't waste the money.
I'm not sure what the LE1 setups are making for HP. Someone else can answer that one.

The cars my daily driver, so if I did tear the engine down I wouldn't be able to wait very long to have the parts shipped. I'm just trying to get a good idea of what I should do. I don't plan on any nitrous, but boost does sound like a good idea for the future. Wish I could afford it. All I'm looking for right now is something dependable and affordable.

Re: Planning a rebuild, maybe a 355?

Just a few months ago I had my engine rebuilt to 355 specs because of the daily driver habit and i wanted a little more out of it. I didnt need to overbore but I did. I ended up using a forged kit. not sure it was from summit as the engine shop gets his stuff from both summit, jegs, and some other place. IN all im really happy with the engine its killer and im not at all worried about reliability. I was a budget of 2000. For the 2000 i got the engine rebuilt and the heads ported and cleaned up. hope this helps you.

The car's my daily driver. That would kill my gas mileage. If I wanted that I'd just drive my 69' Chevelle SS. It did have a 396 in it, but now it has a little 454 inside. I really don't need two gas guzzlers.

You wouldn't happen to have a parts list would you?
