Please help me fix this noise!

Well my car sounds like a loud cricket. One of the pulleys is squeaking really bad. It's not the crank pulley because I lubed that. It really sounds like the belt tensioner pully. What can I do to fix this? It's really annoying. Thanks.

Re: Please help me fix this noise!

A friend with an LS1 had similar problems that would come and go. He somewhat blindly replaced the tensioner. This fixed the problem.

Does your sound come or go at any time. A/C on or off, sharp steering, certain RPMs etc.?

There are different things it could be, I would try to make sure before I spend any $$.

Re: Please help me fix this noise!

My 94 Z was doing this also. I could have sworn it was a pulley, but when I changed the belt the squeak went with it. I didn't expect it to go away, but if it's been a while since you changed the belt you may want to try it, maybe you'll get lucky.

Hopefully its the belt. I replaced it with a goodyear gatorback about 1 1/2 ago but it still looks to be be in good shape. Thanks.

I have this high pitched sound you can hear at idle on my car, not sure if it's an exhaust leak or not. I want to replace a lot of old stuff on my car though

Re: Please help me fix this noise!

It's sometimes difficult to pinpoint noises.

THIS MAY/MAYNOT work but I have seen "old timers" take a long socket extention with large socket on the end, place the socket end to their ear and extension to against the surface of different areas (alternator, a/c compressor, steering pump etc.) to locate the vibration or sound source. This may be old school superstition etc.. I have never tried it.
