These LT1's leak

Most of our V8 cars leak in the back of the engine where the intake manifold is supposed to seal to the engine. This can leak down and make smoke...Espicially noticable when stpped quickly after a hard run. Usually it will burn off on the exhaust manifolds. You say the underside and mufler are oily. This souns funny since the muffler is way back near the rear bumper. Stay on the problems with help from an enthusist near you. If this is all it is, then it is cheaper to keep adding oil than paying big bucks to fix a design flaw.

There are many other spots that leak and someone familiar with LT1's can identify the problem areas. The hard start can be a dozen things and if it bothers you the best mechanics can diagnose it for you after checking the car.
