Please recomend some valve springs

Please recomend some valve springs
I need a set of valve springs for my stock heads with Cranes baby cam. With 1.6RRs it's about .555 lift. Not looking to spend a fortune if I can help it. I won't be spinning the engine real high because I don't want to kill the 115k original short block. 6k will be the limit.
Also need to know if I can use the original retainers.
Thanx

Re: Please recomend some valve springs
I know the LT4 springs are only good for .525 lift. I'll have to look at what Crane recomends. Just hoping there was something else cheap like the LT4 springs that could handle a little more lift.

Re: Please recomend some valve springs
I just ordered some Comp Cams 987 springs for my Scorpion 1.7 rocker install on a stock cam. The .987 springs are good for .600 lift and I'll only be hitting .520 with the stock cam and 1.7 RR.
This is the first time I've put together a valvetrain, so I'm not sure if these will be good for your cam setup; but the 987 springs are only ~$85 from http://speed-eng.com.
Sean over at Speed Engineering did tell me Comp Cams recommends the conical springs (like the 918s) for cam swaps, but the 987s would be fine for my stock cam setup. (BTW: The 918s are ~$159) And since your lift is only .555, I'm thinking these springs should work fine.
You will need new retainers and locks though, as I believe these springs require 10* ones. (10* steel retainers + Locks ~ $70)
Hope this helps,
Thomas.

Don't cheap-out on valvesprings. Even the most expensive set of springs costs far less than what it would cost to repair the potential damage that could occur if you had a cheap spring fail.

Re: Please recomend some valve springs
I can sell you a NIB set of 987 springs plus 10* retainers for 80 bucks, all you need to do is get 10* locks for like 15 bucks. I would include locks also, but I made a mistake while ordering and ordered 7* locks

Re: Please recomend some valve springs
The Isky 235-D springs will also work with the 227 and 1.6 rockers. I had
initially bought them with the Comp 728-16 titanium retainers, but then
decided to go with the beehives. The 235-Ds should work with the stock
retainers. I think you can find them for about $90.
If you end up going with the Crane 99893 springs, be sure to use the GM
L98 spring seats with them.
I have a set of Comp 26915 beehives that have 3,000 miles on them
that are for sale. I may even have retainers and keepers too. I'll have to
check the garage.
