Is this possible?

hey guys im in the process of looking to get a new optispark. I know my car is a 95 due to the vin and the OB1 PCM with the OB2 style pin connector. But when I llok for optis under 95 it shows me the vented opti with the long shaft not the little spline one that sits in the opti and the cam sproket. I know the one I have has the short spline driven shaft and i do not have any went tubing coming from the intake as they say the 95s had. I had to look under the 94 year to get the opti that I have. Did GM make a few 95s with the 94 style opti? What brand do you guys recomend for the opti? I am in between the MSD 8381 its on amazon for 460 and on summit its 490, or just getting the cardone distrubtor form the autoparts and putting my jegs cap and rotor that i got already. I think the MSD would be way better then getting one from the autoparts, just wqant your thoughts. thanks

Re: Is this possible?

All 95s came from the factory with the vented opti. Maybe yours or your engine is not original?

Check the partial VIN on the back of the engine block, to see if it matches the vehicle VIN. Shoebox has a photo that shows you where to look:

Re: Is this possible?

Best bet for a reliable is AC Delco or Delphi, as they are the same. Check Rock Auto for pricing.

Re: Is this possible?

I have been running the MSD for 6 years with no problem. They offer the vented for my 94 and was easy to make work. I hear problem from others and know the more hp you throw at it, the more problem you have. I would get the AC Delco if I did it over again.
