Possible leak at fuel pump?

For the last few months I have smelled a faint gas odor.I could never pin point it.Well, today I was prepping to replace my faulty fuel pump and I noticed that there was a piece of what looks like to be a hose about 2 inches long that shows sign of a small leak in between two pieces of tubing. Is that piece suppose to be there?

That sounds like a patch job. Can you post a picture?

Re: Possible leak at fuel pump?

That hose/tube goes to the carbon cannister, so if it was all cracked and leaking you could maybe get some vapors, but it also could be that the carbon cannister itself is the problem.

Ill snap a picture. Another question...the old pump wiring looks like it has three wires, the new one only two?

That is the stock configuration on the lines.

Wiring, courtesy of Shoebox:

Inside the tank, there are the same three wires/colors as part of the fuel pump support assembly. The purple wire goes to the level float assembly, the black and gray wires go to the pump connector. There is a female spade connector in the middle of the black ground wire that goes to the level float as well. Not sure why there is any need to "tap" into a wire. They all have connectors.
