Possible leak at fuel pump?
For the last few months I have smelled a faint gas odor.I could never pin point it.Well, today I was prepping to replace my faulty fuel pump and I noticed that there was a piece of what looks like to be a hose about 2 inches long that shows sign of a small leak in between two pieces of tubing. Is that piece suppose to be there?

That's the vapor canister line I believe and i have seen other cars with the same thing. As for the wiring I found out I tap into the wire below the ring, only two wire there.

That is the stock configuration on the lines.

Inside the tank, there are the same three wires/colors as part of the fuel pump support assembly. The purple wire goes to the level float assembly, the black and gray wires go to the pump connector. There is a female spade connector in the middle of the black ground wire that goes to the level float as well. Not sure why there is any need to "tap" into a wire. They all have connectors.
