power loss sensor problem

So im having a problem with my car that i am almost certain is related to some sensor (it only happens in closed loop). What happens is i have a big loss of power at about 2000rpms. Its kinda like a dead zone almost its weird. And at idle the car shutters a lot. There are no codes being thrown and i suspected the MAF. I switched with a buddy, car ran fine, put mine back in, car ran ****ty for a minute and magically ran fine again. Then i drove later and it was back to being ****ty.

I unplugged the maf and the car ran fine (Im assuming since the check engine light was on and that throws the car back into open loop right?).

So i replaced the maf. Car ran great for a long test drive. Parked it for about an hour then had to drive my friend home and it started running ****ty again like described before, but only for a minute and then it was magically better. Now I have a feeling that the next time I drive (when i get back from dinner) It will be back to driving crappy the whole time so Im getting the feeling it isnt MAF related.

Any ideas to what will create a dead zone around 2000rpms?

Did you check the MAF harness connector for damaged pins? Did you try jiggling the harness to look for an intermittent break in the wires?

Measure the voltage across the pink wire and the black/white wire while you jiggle the harness. Should stay at 12V.

the pins and the wires look fine. Im going to measure the voltage across those wires when i get a hold of a volt meter. Hopefully tomorrow. Right now i unplugged the battery and im gonna leave it unplugged til tomorrow to see if resetting everything helps at all

do you think a small exhaust leak at the header-y-pipe gasket could cause something like this?

Monitoring with a scanner or a scan log would tell you a lot, IMHO. You can't accurately diagnose without one, these days.

Get a scanner on it (preferably one you can record with, like DataMaster) and watch the MAF signal when you're driving. I bet you'll see it intermittently drop out or give a crazy reading.

i just ordered a cable so when that gets here ill be able to scan and give you guys a better idea of whats going on.

after a night of sitting with no battery the car ran fine when i just drove it a few minutes ago, but im well aware that it always runs fine the first drive after i do something so ill have to see what happens on the 2nd and 3rd drives.
