Power Window Switch

My power window switch for the drivers side window on the drivers side will only let me roll it down. when i try to move it up and press up on the switch it doenst move up, sonmetimes it works sometimes it doesnt. it has to be just right to roll it up!. it is messed up, like the switch moves up and down freely like there is no switch. but the passenger switch is fine. the drives side switch just seems loose. so i think its broken. i plan on buying a new switch but am wondering how to replace it. i took the trim piece and pulled it out a little bit and there are only a bunch of wires going to it, where is the harness end to unplug? or what do i do? do i have to buy the whole trim or just the two switches together. thanks help me out!

the plug is under the dash on the drivers side, the part at a Chevy dealer will be the whole trim piece (all switches).

are you sure abou tthat because i think i read that shoebox said that you can just buy ths power window switches by itself, withought the power mirror and door lock switch. i think also said they come out separately i jsut didnt see the plug where to unplug just the window switches.

I'm going by the local dealer here in Hampton, had to get the switch for my 96. It came as one piece with both window and doorlock switches in the little oval panel.

Being that I am electronically challenged, I had the dealer do the install, but my problem was similar, one switch felt sloppy. total cost for part and install was about $160.00.

I am not sure what year your car is and how they are different, but mine is a '94 and I replaced mine last year, drove up to the local dealership and they had one in stock. It was just the switch portion and cost me around $15.00 and took me all of 2 minutes to install...did it in the parking lot of the dealership with no tools. Just pop out the trim panel, un hook the harness, whole assembly with wires will unhook from all switches at once. Pop out the defective switch and pop in the new one.

Good Luck

Aaron

1 - The switch is sold by itself without the whole trim panel and harness.

2 - If you manage to get the whole door panel trim assembly off which takes me about as long as it takes to scratch your *** a couple times, you should see the harnesses for the mirrors, locks, and windows (at least on the T/A it is) and they simply unplug.

ok guys thats what i was hoping for that i could just buy the switch to replace. i have a 95 z28 so it should just be like yours. but heres my question when you said trim panel, did you mean the whole door panel, or just the little oval trim piece that has the mirror control, door lock switch and the power window switches. i took the small oval trim piece out and i couldnt find a way to unhook the switches because the wires went into the door somewhere im not sure.

You just take the little oval trim piece with the switch in it off. The wire harness has a plug on the end. You simply unplug the switch from the harness. When you get the new switch youle see.

The switch is like clipped on to the trim piece. Just carefully pry on the clips with a small screw driver and the switch will pop out.

dont know if it is normal or not, but follow the wires down the door as you can comfortably, mine were stripped about 6 inches down, bare wires are never a good thing.
