prices on porting heads
I'm trying to figure out what a decent price on a port/polish job is going to cost. It takes a while for us married guys to convince the wives we need this. I'm looking to do a heads/cam project in the near future and i'm trying to get a bottom line. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rob

Lloyd Elliot and Advanced Induction both offer Heads and Custom cam packages.
Lloyd is cheaper, alot of guys swear by him. Personally when i have talked with him, he is a great guy willing to work with the customer and do whatever you want done. Check out the bottem of the link, it outlines his packages. The cams he offers are Joe overton designed. Dont know much about AI, sure they know there stuff also.

He did my old heads, and a few more sets here locally. The LT1 head on his site are my old ones. Price was $400 for port work only and $50 to flow one hole, does beautiful work.

$50 to flow one hole??? I don't see how someone could port heads & insure some degree of portwork consistency by just giving you numbers for one cylinder. Sure flowing every cylinder can be a PITA (especially when you have loads of heads to do), but it's the only way to insure the consistency of your port work and letting the customer know what they truly have.

Most smaller business head porters to my knowledge only flow one hole, if not you would pay $400 or more just to have every cylinder flowed. Most guys on this board don't have the resources for that. I guess that's ok if you are going after a max effort. The heads he did for me flowed 260cfm@.600, made about 380RWHP with a very small cam, 1 5/8 shorty headers and a six speed. It ran 90MPH in the 1/8 mile with closed ex. at 3740lbs, 355 inches. He has been doing it for years and probably has no problem duplicating ports. He does very good work for what you pay for.
