Progress update on the BLAKHOL

Well I have decided on what the personalized license plate will say when we get it running...BLAKHOL...it sucks in all the money..... in my and Pops ueuniverse anyway.

Well here is where we are.

This has been a 3.5 year endevour...at times it has been very hard to stay after it... it all started with a 3.75 stroke crank and well y'all know the drill after that.........we are close now and has been worth it...and for the record Pops and has never waivered....he is a tough old fart.

I dont know where to start..EVERYTHING on this car has been modded or changed, I havent posted much as of late....and thought yous guys might be interested as to where we are with the car.

Parts deleted from car:
Rear seats
Front bumper support
Front swaybar
Drivers airbag
Stock fuel system
Carpet padding
Factory seat belts
ABS modulator

Body and interior parts that have been upgraded:
Cowl hood, Heres what it's getting

Seats

Seatbelts are on the way, Ultrasheild 5 point camlock harnesses(black)

Steering wheel and tach

Also is getting a 6 point Chromemoly Wolfe bolt in rollbar

Minitub is done:

9 inch, narrowed 3 inches per side, detroit locker, 31 spline axles, 5/8 wheel studs

interior on minitub:

Drivers side, both identical

minitub no trim:

Minitub under car:

Minitub done wheels on car:

More to come, I found out a limit of ten images per post.....

Re: Progress update on the BLAKHOL

COntinuation:

Fuel system:

Exhaust, this was a pain, Pops had to change the angle of the Mufflex where it comes over the axle to move it forward so the muffler will clear the sump on the tank, we also moved the entire system up in the car, nothing is hanging out, we moved the floorboard in on the passenger side to move it up, we also fabbed our own 3.5 inch Y pipe, notched the trans brace under the drivers seat so it would not hang out.

Pics of Y pipe and modded floorboard:

We also had to have the Hedman 1 7/8 headers modded to work with the A/C and power steering, no pics they are being finished up and getting ready to go to Jethot.

We moved the rack down so it did not hit the bottom of the oil pan.

We notched the fuel tank so the 9 inch could swing in the car, the car will be LOW to the ground.

Trans cooler mounted in RF fender, hoses to foglight holes will cool it.

More to come

Re: Progress update on the BLAKHOL

Yep POP has been very busy fabing all the stuff for this car and getting it fitted and attached. Doing most of it buy myself until I need a hand holding something. Work on it one day and have to take two off 'cause of my back.
Not a big issue as I have all day to work on it.
I have all the parts for the engine just waiting for the final machine work on the block and get it together. Our favorite machine shop, the one we trust closed and the machinest retired out of the rat race. That left me with a block that was not complete and an assy not final ballanced so I had to find a place to do the work and out of the people/shops here there is only one I would take it too and he is Baaaaccckkkeeedd way up with work.
Still gonna be a while but I hope to have it done before Fall=Sep/Oct.

I know Christmas is coming.

Re: Progress update on the BLAKHOL

LR, if you need some good block shops that you don't mind shipping to I know of a few who can do Pro Stock and Cup level stuff and who ship. I understand the problem with finding good people to do your work, I have to guys I trust who can do balancing, one who can grind cranks, a few who can do block work, one who can line bore WELL etc..... that's not even getting into the top end stuff! You know how that is as well.

Both shops sounded real good but CNC was pretty up front with the fact he was really backed up and recommended LSM. Neither place is real cheap, but if the quality is there it's worth it.(about 500 to do the cam tunnel) Might as well get them to do the finish hone and check everything while it's there. Most has already been done.
I don't mine shipping but it was 169.00 dollars one way for the block, but if that is what has to be done-- so be it.

Re: Progress update on the BLAKHOL

I agree.... Carl @ CNC is one smart dude when it comes to SBC and getting them right. I agree that doing the tunnel and lifter bores is the way to go on SR motors, I will not do one without this now.

Re: Progress update on the BLAKHOL

Yeh what my Pops said...thanks, you are correct on both accounts.

Bret, yeh it sucks when you lose your primary machinist.....he could be trusted and still enjoyed the hobby side of it even at his age of 63...he built a turbo 4.3 Fiero that ran mid tens on radials...fabricated damn near every piece for it himself. We have since learned he is working for a local Car Quest shop near us...we will investigate tommorrow where his limits are on specialty stuff.

Re: Progress update on the BLAKHOL

Thats going to be a really sweet ride when its done, congrats! Can you divulge any more info on that Wilson intake? I see that its a cast piece, have they produced a few of them? Looks like they designed it with 4th gens in mind, with that step on the roof of the intake so it just fits under the cowl, and it uses a GM style dual bore throttle body, where they usually use a single bore LS1 type. Any info would be great!
