Project Heads/Cam 236/242 is complete, its ALIVE and Running!!!
Well just as the subject says, my heads/cam project is complete and runs great. We ended up getting the car running last night(mon) and boy was it loud. We started it up with open long tube headers, and the sound was absolutely awesome. I didnt get to drive the car last night, but today made up for it. So far, I have put 130 miles on this setup, and I dont have NO regrets on this cam.
For all of you naysayers out there, and who said this cam was to big for a stock bottom end, I would suggest that you stop tring to persuade people against larger cams when you dont have ANY experience whatsover in cams or cam choices. When I heard what negative comments everyone had about this cam, I was dead set on proving everyone wrong with it. ANd here I am to prove it.
Here is a link to my other post that explains what all I installed in the car. http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...threadid=90384
So anyway, here is my view on how it drives. We have a base program in it right now, but it still runs great. The idle is set at 950 rpm in gear or in park. It does not die when going from park to drive, it just lopes along and just itches fo more throttle. Driving around town, there really isnt a whole lot of cam surge, just some when its about 1500 rpm in town. Once you get out of town and get the revs above 2500, thats when it really starts pulling. Half throttle and the motor just reves so fast its unreal. At one point today, I was going 60 and merging onto the interstate, so I put the pedal down about 75% or more and the damn thing broke the tires loose. This wasnt quite what I had expected. The power that this setup is making is just unreal. Tomorrow afternoon, a friend of mine is gonna come to the house and we are gonna do some more tuning with the computer and see how much better it will drive on the street. For the sound, that is a whole nother story. The sound is just music to my ears at any rpm. My dad noticed today that it was a higher pitched nascar type sound. It has the hooker lt's, with a custom welded 3" mandrel bent y-pipe with a flubbermaster American thunder muffler setup. It is rather loud, and I need to find a different muffler setup to get rid of the flowmaster drone. But overall, I am very pleased with the cam, and I almost wish I would have gone with the 242/248 Comp XE grind. But I am getting tired of typing, and I need some sleep. I can now drive the car my whole spring break from NIU now. Well Im kinda tired, so Im out like a fat kid in dodgeball.
Sig will be updated soon.

Hopefully one of these days I'll get the video up for everyone to see and hear this monster. Brian took me for a quick ride today and he never really got into it, but I think it broke the tires loose many times and pushed me back in the seat at 1/4 throttle what a stock LT1 does at almost full throttle. So yes, this beast is gonna put down some massive power.

As for how much he spent, I think it was somewhere around $3k just for this swap, because he went all out and did it all right and didn't shortchange anything. It really paid off. I'm not sure on how much he spent but I think it was something like that, and I'm answering for him because he went to sleep or something. I'm still awake because I'm stupid. If you guys got any questions, AIM me or PM me because I was there the entire weekend helping with the install.

I honestly cant see the stock bottom end being able to rev high enough to justify getting it. You have some big ones if your revving the stock bottom end 6500+.
Grips 230/236 on a 383 revs to 6500
i'm sure you can rev much higher on that cam and a 383.
Sure it may be streetable, but is it justifyable?

I have that cam in my 383

Oh, it's easy to get away with a cam like that with a 3,200 stall! Good luck getting it all tuned...hope to see some dyno numbers soon. I'm curious to see where it torque peaks.
