Pulling motor... suggestions?

Ok I finally found the time to pull this damn thing. I am going to go step by step w/ http://www.michiganspeed.com/enginepull/index.html
anyone use this? any kinks? anyone have better advice? I was wondering if since my heads will be off and intake manifold off does it come out of the top w/ those off easieR? The oil pan is also off.

I am in the garage! checking on this periodically (when I get pissed)

thanks

also, I am thinking of keeping the transmission IN the car, if this makes it much harder however I do not want to do this. Please advise?

Re: Pulling motor... suggestions?

when i pulled mine this spring...the heads were still on, and the tranny was left under the car....if you already have this much taken apart...pull it from the top, it's not hard at all.

Re: Pulling motor... suggestions?

ok so how do I put the chains on this block? The oil pan, heads, everything is off it. It is just the block... the last piston was in PIECES

I can get a cherry picker, and chains, so I just put them under the block and pull it up like that? thanks for the help

Re: Pulling motor... suggestions?

I got one of these: http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...3&storeId=6970

Notice on the end of the chains, those little tabs? I just got some short (1" or so) bolts with the same threads as head bolts and bolted one tab to the furthest bolt by #8 and closest by #1. Came right out, no problemo.

That leveler on the hoist can be bought separately if you already have a hoist, as well as just chains with the tabs. I didn't use the leveler, just the chains.

Yeah, I don't think I'd use the stock bolts. Remember, they're not threaded all the way up to the bolt head. Just take a head bolt down to Home Depot, Lowes, etc, and find some bolts of the same pitch that are short. Shouldn't cost more than 50 cents.

Just a short one will be fine, about 1 or 2 inches.

Re: Pulling motor... suggestions?

use your old intake bolts,no leveler. just put the hoist hook towards the front and it will have the perfect angle to pull it.leave the tranny under car.
