question about cloyes double roller chain on an LT1...
I have one that I bought new for an L98 engine and I figured I'd use it on my new motor since I'm going to an electric water pump/ vented opti anyway. I know you need to clearance the cover, but the middle where the opti passes through looks a little too close to the cover even though the cover hangs off the block 1/16 inch. Looks as if the center of the cam sprocket will touch the seal/center of the cover if it gets any closer.
Is there a certain cloyes part number that you need to use for the conversion, or will any OEM replacement true double roller chain work? It's fits nice and tight with no slack, I'd hate to not be able to use it and I dont want to grind for a chain that wont work either.

Re: question about cloyes double roller chain on an LT1...
did a search, didn't find the answer I was looking for. And yes, I converted to a vented opti on my motor now. My new engine is the same way.
I'm going with an electric water pump anyway, so I'm doing the chain because I dont want to steal it off the old motor...want to leave it complete for something else.
Dont know the cloyes part number, just know what it is. I bought the chain a couple years ago when I started putting parts together for this engine. Just now got everything I need except for a few small optional components.
Yes I originally ordered it for an '86+ style gen 1 small block. Good to know someone's done it, now I feel more comfortable that is isn't too important.
