question about heads/cam to finish 383, and DCR

well guys, im getting ready to get my car done, and am down to the heads/cam

ive talked to bret, and he said I would be perfect to go with LE3 heads and a LE4 cam, but i kinda want more than that.

I want to run mid to low 11's on motor with a properly setup car

i was thinking of running ported TFS heads and maybe a lunati voodoo cam (the biggest one) since it is about everything I am looking for out of a cam
this would give me around a 8.5:1 DCR tho, is this too high to run on pump gas?

I want a power band from 3500-6800 and the voodoo is right around that for a power band.

the car will have a 3600 stall, and 3.73 gears

8.5:1 DCR on pump gas will be fine, although it is at the higher limit. The Vodoo line of cams are proven, and if ya want to talk with the guy who designed those cams, PM me - he'd be glad to talk with you about matching the right heads to the cam and getting the gearing/stall combo correct.

I don't think the Lunati cams will be better than what Bret can spec out for you.

he is saying that the LE3 heads with a LE4 cam would be better than fully ported TFS heads and a custom cam...the TFS heads would flow a lot better, but be slightly lower compression.

My goals are just mid to low 11's (11.3 would be GREAT)

You can mill heads for more compression.

thanks seawolf, thats starting to look like the best option, slightly cheaper and more proven, but idk if i will get what i want out of it. Maybe they can do something slightly bigger for me cam wise

either eric bradby, or lloyd

i dont really want to do a solid roller just because of the valve adjustments, im not entirely sure how to do all that stuff, or how often i would have to do it, but i have thought of that

What's the difference between what you're calling the LE3 heads and the TFS heads?

I would talk to Lloyd and see what he recommended. If the TFS heads give you a lot more and you think they're worth the money, get them, but there's a lot more to head flow than CFM.

well, i know the flow numbers for the TFS is like 306 at 600
and the LE3s are like 280ish at 600

so....is the extra flow worth it, or what. I will talk to lloyd and see what he thinks i guess, eitherway he is getting my money so yeah

I think he'll know much better than I do. Let me know what he says and what you get since I'll be making a similar decision in the near future.

I've just always heard that custom is better than shelf grind. If I didn't have my cam already when I found out about those, then I would have bought one to save some money. I've seen some of the dyno graphs of what Bret has done and they look pretty darn good. I didn't mean to say that the Lunati cams weren't any good, they look awesome.

Do you have a copy of their lobe catalog?
