Question about roller rockers?
Is there enough clearance with the stock valve covers for 1.6 rr's? If not, will the LT4 composite valve covers work and does the LT4 passensger side cover have enough clearance for the alternator? And one last question, should I get self aligning or non?

There is not enough clearance for CCpromags or the cranes gold /gmpp 1.6s. However, you can easily clip the supports out with tinsnips and they will work. The covers for an LT4 should work since it used crane gold rockers. I haven't heard of any alternator problems with those and many people do that conversion.

It depends on what kind of RR you get. You will probably have to cut some out of the stock covers.Yes LT4 valve cover will work without modifiying and im pretty sure the will clear the alternator. It will quiter also from what i hear, but the are too expensive for my blood..

I'm using COMP "pro Magnum" non self-aligning 1.6 rockers. My valvecovers are GM Performance cast aluminum, which didn't require any modification for the rockers, but I did have to do a little "creative clearancing" on the back of the alternator. Not too bad, though...Not noticeable, and I did it with a hand file.

As for non self-aliging vs. self aligning? I did non, just to make it more universal. I will warn you, though...There's only 1 company that makes "bolt-on" guide plates, and that's GM Performance (GMPP). No, COMP doesn't make them for the LT1. The LT1 has different valve spacing than the typical SBC.

Thanks for the great info guys. I was wondering if anybody had part#'s for the gmpp rr's and guide plates. Do you think I can order these from Jason Cromer too? I agree the LT4 covers are a little too rich for my blood. I'll probably cut out the supports myself.

You need more than just the valve covers to make them work. Here's all that's needed. The prices in the link are from a few years ago. I bought a set from Dal a couple of months ago for around $200.
