question about transmission service

I am relatively certain that my transmission (A4) is in need of routine service. It's got 76k miles and I don't know when it was done last. It feels like it slipping a little bit, it doesn't shift as firmly as it used to, and it doesn't pull as strongly as it used to.

So, I have purchased a filter, filter seal, and pan gasket from a Gm dealership.

I currently have 6 quarts of fluid on hand.

My question is this, should I just drain from the pan, swap the gasket, seal and filter, put it back together and refill it?

Or should I go any further than that?

Do I need to drain the converter (it's stock)?

Should I attempt to flush the fluid from the lines and the radiator?

What would you do if you were in my shoes?

This is just my opinion, I would go ahead and change the filter, refill it with the 6 quarts you have, and then take it to your local GM dealer, Jiffy Lube, etc., whoever you are comfortable with, and have them flush the transmission. Most shops now have a machine that they hook to your car to flush out all of the old fluid. HTH.

that trans service from jiffy lube or the dealership is gonna cost you $$$$$ like 50-60 bucks...

then your gonna change the filter after and loose all that good fluid!!???

just drain the pan and use the new filter

you will be fine!!

I guess someone didn't understand. Change the filter and fluid, refill with 6 quarts, take to local dealer, jiffy lube, etc., tell them to flush the trans, that you just changed the filter, be done with it. The only thing you will lose is the 6 new quarts of fluid you just installed because it will get flushed with the rest of the fluid.
