Yeah, and Im sure youre not running an airfoil or K&N or syn lube or no cat or good ypipe or cutout or exhaust or descreend maf or TB coolent bypass, etc I think its funny as hell when people make comments like that. It all adds up. im happy with 5hp any way I can find it.

No you cant gut it and pass the test, at least ive never EVER seen that happen, but you might get lucky. Get a random tech cat, for about 250. Those cheap ones that cost 45-100 are not direct fits, meaning they would have to be welded to your intermediate pipe, you dont want that. Random Tech will bolt up to your intermediate pipe via the flange and it will weld to your ypipe just fine. That would be what i would do if you absoulutly have to pass emissions.

It won't pass if it's gutted, you could buy an off road pipe and put on your car, then put the cat back on when it needs to be inspected. The thing is i only did mine so i wouldn't have to pay for ANOTHER cat. [/B][/QUOTE]

I put on Jethot coated MAC midlengths and ypipe. Also got a coated orp. With my Borla catback it's way too raspy (with larger or smaller plate) with the orp.
Ended up getting a coated MAC cat from Jethot also.
Has a ball & socket on each end so it bolts right up to the catback & ypipe. Easy removal if I want to run the orp again. Sounds good once again.

Never recieved anything to get one and had the car for four years? I'm in the military and push came to shove i'd register it in aonther state. I have a obd1 conversion and tune so i'd be jacked either way.

Not to jack the thread, but it seems on topic. What does a bad cat sound like? I have a 88 Monte Carlo SS that I just swapped a LT1 into this summer. I have long tubes and true duals, but I also have high flow cats. I have a real bad sound that I originally thought was valvetrain, but driveability never really was lost, and I relashed the rockers the other day, and everything looked great up top.

I also prodded the exhaust with a stethascope, and while I can hear it in all the primaries on the passenger side, it is definately loudest in the passenger side cat section. So, I think my 5 month old cat has gone bad. It sounds kind of like gravel in a blender. Oh yeah, one more thing. The sound originally started after I goosed the throttle, but now is present all the time in normal driving, and I have put too many miles on it to be a bearing... it should have failed by now. Any thoughts?

Well, I had the cat gutted, and what a difference! Must of been a long time coming. The porcelin in front was all melted !! But now it's like getting a 2 for 1, more power and better sound

94TA/GT, did you have to use the starter pipe in order to use the MAC catalytic converter? How much was it coated from jethot? most sites have them listed for 220 to 230 alone.

Cats fail in different ways so there is not one answer to your question. Sometimes they melt and clog up and sometimes they burn out. I've seen my muffler guy bang on the bottom of the cat to see if he could hear any rattling sounds inside. On my Jeep I could hear a difference when I started the car when my cat went bad.
