random SES light... gas smell.. fuel pump sound.
i just bought a 94 z28. I noticed a totally random SES light twice in the last 4 days. Ive never owned a camaro before and i smell a slight fuel smell in the back of the car and i notice the fuel pump sound if i dip my head intop the hatch compartment. Is this stuff normal? What should i do about the 2 random occurences of the ses light?
thanks

Need to get it scaned (OBD-I). Once the light comes on, the code for the problem is stored in the computer. You need to get it scanned soon, because eventually, if the problem doesn't
happen again, the PCM will clear the stored code.
The only way to scan the 94 is - hardware: AutoXray, ScanMaster. Software + cable:FreeScan, TTS DataMaster, Diacom.
Fuel smell may be a problem with the EEC carbon canister, located in the back drivers fender, behiond the fill door. If the lines are cracked or the canister is saturated with fuel, it will stink.
Some fuel pump noise is normal. If it gets excessive, it might mean pump problems, and that could lead to overheating, and overload the EEC vapor recovery system. Or, maybe the SES light is for the EEC canister purge valve.
Get it scanned.

Like stated above the gas smell is most likely from the evap canister. However if i remember correctly OBD-1 cars should only trigger the SES light if the purge valve is failing. I had a similar problem with the gas smell but no SES, i checked the valve and it was fine, it turned out to be one of the lines going to the canister was rotting.
