I have a rattling / squeaking noise coming from my center console. It started after I downshifted hard on the freeway to chase a friend in a Mustang. It broke the tires loose at 60 for a second, but then hooked hard. After that, I get the noise. Is it the tranny mount? As far as I know, it's the original, so it wouldn't surprise me if it gave out.

From what I have read, the tranny mount usually sounds more like a clunk on acceleration / deceleration.

 

Rip apart the console and see if something came loose, you could have made one of the 3 screws that hold it down loose.

 

The noise is definitely drivetrain related. It hought about the console, but shaking it by hand doesn't make anywhere near the racket that this thing makes. It seems to get worse in reverse and under deceleration. Any ideas?

You may have broken the transmission mount. Get underneath the car and take a look at it.
