looking at the loudmouth isn't it essentially a straight pipe with a resonator in it? I heard that putting a pipe in place of the resonator would smooth out the sound and cut out the raspy pops, is that correct? Couldn't you just get rid of the muffler on a stock cat.back and accomplish the same thing??

The only thing I could imagine is that stock system has crappy bends and doesnt flow very well. Just my .02 though.

true..didn't think about the bends in the pipes...but sound wise wouldn't it be pretty close? couldn't you just get a muffler shop to bend some pipes for you and slap on some nice tips?

True It would probabbly sound pretty close the shops version will have compression bends and the SLP is all mandrel bend stainless steel. You really only pay for a nice clean well flowing system that looks damn nice and sounds great to boot.

I have a friend that has a true loudmouth on his 2000 Z28, and a friend that made his own like you described, on his 2001 SS. To tell you the truth my friends car with the real loudmouth sounds way better at WOT and it sounds better at idle too, Plus the dual/dual tips look killer in my opinion. Your right though you can make your own boot leg loudmouth but in my opinion, the true loadmouth sounds way nicer. And both cars are stock with only little mods such as lid and filter, and other free mods.

I was just trying to justify the $300+ price tag on something that is really just a pipe.

the only piece on the stock exaust that isn`t mandrel bent is the Y pipe, the only diff is the diametr of the stocker is 2 7/8 instead of the loud mouth 3``pipe.

we were just thinking that if my friend put a pipe in place of the muffler he would essentially have a "loudmouth"

that and a resonator would pretty much give you a loudmouth..expet that the pipe diameter would not be the same.

it might but I am not sure... I know alot of guy's were replaceing
the SLP resonater with a dynomax bullet muffler because it's less raspy.

The resonator is there to get rid of the rasp and pops, but it's not perfect.

Anyways, I have personally heard an LT1 with the muffler replaced with pipe and it sounded great at idle. Pretty loud, but the sound quality was very good.

I didn't get to hear it at WOT though.

No, you have that backwards, that is why the resonator is in there, to reduce the popping and rasp. Some people replace the slp resonator with a dynomax bullet, which is a slightly better resonator. It is also straight through so it doesn't hurt flow.

My friend mac had a 'custom' loudmouth, aka straight pipes.http://www.cardomain.com/id/flyinglow57 The lt1 is now going into an s10. http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/b/...exhaust/CC305/ Though it doesn't do much for you, those are idle clips of it.

If you put stright pipes in place of the stock muffler, and a bullet in the I pipe, yes it would sound extremely similar to the loudmouth.
