Exclamation Rear end whine

i have a 94M6,

i put 4.10's in the rear and there is a loud whine from the rear end, i took the car back and they said that with a gear like 4.10 'some' whine is normal. the car seems fine accept for the noise, should i persue the problem further or just ignore the whine?

p.s. i have a 2 serries carrier since the car USED to be an A4 and the gears are richmond

Did you get the 'soft' ring and pinion or the 'hardened'?

The whine is normal for the hardened set...the softer gear set, which isn't as durable, the whine is lessened but not eliminated

The whine is perfectly normal, especially with 4.10's

Yea, the whine is normal for those gears. Especially if you have the hardened set. My friend has them in his 97 SS and it whines a bit as well. Just turn up the stereo and nail the gas!
